Port of Newcastle is seeking expressions of interest for the Sweeper Vessel Master / Engineer who will be responsible for ensuring effective and safe operation of the Lydia for the Port of Newcastle. This role will be reporting through to the Dredging Manager and required to work in conjunction with the David Allan Dredge, the Survey team and other internal teams as required.
It is a critical role which will require excellent tug handling skills and communications. It’s an exciting opportunity to be involved in establishing a new business operation for PON. You will have the chance to build processes and procedures from the concept stage through to a high performing operation in a visible location.
This operation will be a Monday to Friday operation, on a 38 hour full time basis. There may be occasional requirements for overtime – dependent on weather events and dredging requirements of the harbour.
Essential
AMSA Master <24m NC certificate or higher
AMSA Marine Engine Driver 2 or higher
AMSA Medical (if applicable)
Radio Operator’s Certificate of Proficiency
Well-developed interpersonal skills and written and oral communication skills
Ability to use IT systems
Desirable
Experience and/or knowledge of PON operations
High Risk Work Licenses – Rigging Basic, Dogging, vehicle loading crane
Confined Space and Working at Heights
Experience
Demonstrated tug handling knowledge & abilities – particularly in confined waters
Bed Levelling or Harbour Sweeping operations
Ability to develop and maintain computer-based management and control systems
