About the opportunity
Reporting to the newly created position of Senior Risk, Compliance and Sustainability Manager, this position will be responsible for leading and advising the Executive and Board on best practice governance for two companies, Newcastle Airport Pty Ltd and Greater Newcastle Aerotropolis Pty Ltd. 
The Governance and Compliance Manager will support the Senior Risk, Governance and Sustainability Manager in leading and driving a streamlined, coordinated, and cohesive governance and compliance approach.  You will take ownership for strengthening and expanding governance capabilities and support a strong and effective compliance management culture throughout the organisation.  The position provides direction to, and receives support from, the Governance Coordinator.
Depending on the experience of individuals, the position may encompass legal functions in general commercial and corporate law, however is not an essential component of the role.

About you
The role of Governance and Compliance Manager will well suit an individual of high professional and personal standards who may have developed skills as a governance expert from an administrative career, or who may have a legal background and seeking an opportunity to focus largely on corporate governance and compliance practices, with a smaller ratio of legal work.  
Experience and personal qualities we are seeking include:

  • Governance management experience in a complex corporate structure;

  • ·Success in developing and maintaining document and records management systems;

  • A passion for driving best practice change management principles;

  • Demonstrated ability to analyse, design and implement a broad range of continuous improvement projects from design to implementation to review;

  • An innate ability to influence a broad range of stakeholders to instil a team culture of high level corporate governance and compliance;

  • An inquisitive mind where research and interpreting complex information into practical terms comes second nature;

  • Tertiary qualifications in Applied Corporate Governance and Risk Management or Law; and

  • Membership of the Governance Institute of Australia (desirable).
