About the company:
Neumann Space is an Australian space technology company based at Lot Fourteen in Adelaide. With a team of 10 engineers, we are developing, testing and soon commercialising an electric propulsion system for satellites and spacecraft. With their patented technology maturing they are poised for their next stage of growth, and are looking to expand their engineering team.

The opportunity:
We seek a passionate, talented and practical Electronics Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. You will work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to design and develop electronic hardware solutions for the Neumann Space propulsion system and for integrating the system into our customer’s satellite buses. We have a modern approach to engineering and use the latest technologies across our engineering team. Through the role, you will understand how to design and develop electronics for space applications and integrate them into a wide range of National and International satellite buses.

The ideal person
Space technology development is an international race and Neumann Space must be fast and agile. In a small multi-disciplinary team, we are not looking for passengers but for exceptionally driven candidates who want to leave their mark. You will fit into this environment if you are entrepreneurial, self-motivated, hands-on with a can-do attitude.

The ideal candidate will have an aerospace and/or defence background with a very well-rounded knowledge of analogue electronics (especially switch mode power supplies and energy storage) and digital electronics (especially serial communications). A familiarity with firmware, specifically with STM microcontrollers, is also desirable.
The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Working in a collaborative team to develop and test the electrical and electronic systems for our CubeSat and SmallSat versions of the electric propulsion system hardware.

  • Research, development, design, and testing power conversion, energy storage, communication, and processing hardware.

  • Evaluation and test of satellite bus communications interface hardware

  • Development of hardware, firmware, and scripting to support unit and spacecraft testing.

  • Electronics integration and testing.

  • Schematic and PCB design of electronics hardware.

  • Documentation of electronics designs, including drawings, system design, and analysis documents.

Qualifications and Skills that are essential:
We are seeking talented and motivated electronics engineers who have:

  • An interest and passion for electronics and the space industry.

  • Demonstrated 5 years of electronic engineering experience, including experience with power supply design and energy storage.

  • A degree in Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics and or equivalent field.

  • Interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence that supports working in a small and agile company with other highly focussed, intelligent people.

  • High proficiency in Altium and or KiCad.

  • Electronics and or embedded system development experience in a professional environment.

  • Electronics design skills including system design, schematic capture, multi-layer PCB layout, electronics bring up and test.

  • Practical technical skills (prototyping, troubleshooting, integrating, soldering etc.).

  • Understanding of embedded firmware development.

Australian Citizenship and COVID vaccination are requirements of the position
