About the opportunity

The team at Carrie’s Place is excited by the future and the many ways in which they can positively impact the lives of their clients. The primary purpose of this role is to uphold the Organisation’s vision by supporting zero tolerance towards violence and homelessness. This will be achieved by providing person-centred programs aimed at empowering vulnerable people who may have experienced domestic violence and other forms of trauma and abuse.

Reporting to the Team Leader, the SHLV Case Manager exercises a high level of responsibility and knowledge across the Staying Home Leaving Violence (SHLV) Program area.

Duties Include:

  • Providing person centred, trauma-informed responses to SHLV service requests.

  • Contacting clients referred to SHLV in a timely manner and planning to address a client’s immediate needs.

  • Provide information, advice, advocacy, referrals, strategies and interventions to people in crisis and/or who are experiencing homelessness, at risk of homelessness and/or domestic violence.

  • Develop case plans addressing client’s goals to assist with their ongoing and changing support needs.

  • Participate as a team member in both the work of the SHLV team and a member of the broader Carrie’s Place Team.

About you

The successful candidate will be a team player, and an excellent communicator, with a commitment to feminist philosophy, social justice, and human rights. You will value ongoing reflection and review of your practice and be proactive in gaining the skills and knowledge to provide appropriate and current evidence-based support to clients.

  • Tertiary qualification in social science or related field (Minimum Diploma level)

  • Experience working in a Specialist Domestic Violence, Homelessness and/or Community Service Organisation, understanding the complexities and support needs of the Homelessness and Domestic Violence client cohort.

  • Ability to work with the local community to promote awareness of homelessness and domestic violence services.

  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in negotiation, advocacy and conflict resolution.

  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with clients in crisis and provide appropriate, trauma-informed support.

  • Demonstrated ability to network and develop working relationships with the local community and stakeholder.

  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills, and computer literacy.

  • Current Working with Children Check, Driver’s License, and National Police Clearance will be required.

Benefits

The position is offered at SCHADS Level 5 and has the benefit of a 9-day fortnight (70 hour working fortnight). As Carrie’s Place is a not-for-profit this position also has the benefit of salary sacrificing up to $15,800, increasing the overall salary package.
