About the role & you

We are looking for an Assistant Accountant to join the team in Newcastle on a temporary basis initially and undertake accounting functions to ensure the timely and accurate preparation of accounting reconciliations and reports to senior management and the Board. You will also ensure the timely preparation and processing of the accounts payable function & related activities and support the Corporate Accountant and Executive Manager, Corporate Accounting.

 

Day to day your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • End to end accounts payable function including receipt of invoices, requesting and receiving payment approvals, processing of invoices for payment, preparation of EFTs for authorisation, and processing to the general ledger in line with correct budget allocations.

  • Bank reconciliations for the Corporate group

  • Preparation and processing of Corporate credit card reconciliations

  • Fixed asset register acquisitions updates on a regular basis

  • Quarterly BAS for the Corporate group

  • Preparation and processing of bank related transactions (e.g. rejected transactions and processing receipts)

  • Preparation and processing of accounting journals

  • Daily processing of accounting related transactions

  • Troubleshooting ad hoc challenges with accounts payable and corporate accounting activities

  • Participation and collaboration in projects requiring corporate accounting input

 

Ideal experience we are seeking in the successful candidate include:

 

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to organise and prioritise demands, handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, set and meet deadlines with multiple and competing demands

  • Strong communication skills and stakeholder engagement skills

  • Demonstrated accounts payable experience and accounting knowledge

  • TAFE Qualification in Accounting or Bachelor's degree in either Accounting, Business or Commerce

  • Strong PC skills and IT knowledge
