About the organisation
Warlga Ngurra Women and Children’s Refuge is an Aboriginal focused Specialist Homelessness Service that responds to women, with or without accompanying children, who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless due to domestic violence. Their services include emergency accommodation, court support, children’s activities, outreach support, advocacy, housing support, child support and referrals.

About the role
Warlga Ngurra is seeking a dedicated Outreach Caseworker to deliver trauma-informed, client-centered support to women and children experiencing or at risk of homelessness and family and domestic violence. In this role, you will play a vital part in the delivery of Specialist Homelessness Services, supporting individuals with complex needs and promoting safety, self-determination, and well-being.
Key Responsibilities will include:
Providing trauma-informed case management, including intake assessments, risk evaluations, case planning, and referrals
Delivering crisis support, advocacy, and safety planning to women and children with complex needs
Maintaining accurate case records and documentation using the Client Information Management System (CIMS)
Facilitating and supporting groupwork and outreach programs such as Circle of Security and Shark Cage
Building collaborative relationships with community partners and promoting culturally safe service access
Participating in the on-call roster, client transport, and representing Warlga Ngurra at sector events and forums
About you
To be successful in this role, you’ll be a compassionate, driven, and adaptable professional who thrives in dynamic environments. You bring strong case management experience, a thorough understanding of the impacts of domestic and family violence, and a commitment to providing culturally responsive, client-centred care.
The skills and experience we are seeking include:
Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in relevant fields and tertiary qualifications in community welfare/social science.
Strong knowledge of trauma-informed practice and experience working with women and children
Proficiency in risk assessment, case planning, and referral pathways
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively both autonomously and within a team environment
Proficiency in using client data management systems and ensuring accurate, timely case documentation
This role requires a strong understanding of First Nations peoples, cultures and society, and the issues which impact them, with a commitment to culturally safe practice. This is a targeted role specifically aimed for Aboriginal candidates however Aboriginality is not a genuine occupational qualification criteria for this role.
You are required to hold a current driver’s license and Working with Children Clearance and a National Police Check as part of your employment.
