About the opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Manager Legal (Infrastructure) to manage Port of Newcastle’s day to day legal activities across the infrastructure portfolio and provide significant input at a strategic level.
Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer (also General Counsel and Company Secretary), this is a highly visible and integral role that requires exceptional leadership, commination and influencing skills.
Responsibilities of the role will include:
Improving the legal and commercial acumen of the Port of Newcastle business and allowing it to deliver on its ambitious growth capex program
Managing a small team of in-house legal professionals, leading to deliver optimal outcomes
Contribute to strategic direction in the infrastructure and operation functions in line with Port of Newcastle’s corporate strategy
Manage legal compliance, contributing to revenue growth, by advising on agreements, contracts, operations and claims
Provide timely, balanced legal advice on a range of matters, whilst addressing risk, revenue growth and
Engage and build strong working relationships with a range of senior stakeholders across the business and externally
About you
We are seeking a senior legal professional who has:
At least 10 years pqe preferably with a leading law firm and some experience in-house
Experience with large complex infrastructure, energy or transport organisations
Extensive experience across major projects, construction and operations and preferably with some experience in property, environment and planning
Ability to establish a new team and form strong collaborative arrangements across a business leveraging transdisciplinary skills and driving creative outcomes
Proven ability to lead a legal team consisting of internal and external counsel
Ability to work across multiple work streams
Outstanding communication (written and verbal), negotiation and influencing skills
Demonstrated ability to work in a strategic and operational capacity
Proven ability to establish a customer focused, commercially astute, culture
Superior organisational skills and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment
Proven ability to engage effectively with Executive teams
Recognised by professional colleagues as a thought leader
Ability to increase the skill level of the general business through tailored and effective training and education programs
