About the company

Since 1977, Jenny's Place has provided crisis and transitional accommodation, support, early intervention and prevention programs, outreach support and community education to women and children experiencing domestic violence and homelessness in our local community. Their programs deliver integrated case management to assist clients to obtain and maintain safe, affordable housing and referral to appropriate wrap around services to meet individual client needs.

About the opportunity

Based at the Newcastle office, the Outreach Caseworker will provide high quality, trauma informed, strength-based case management support to women and children experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing culturally appropriate, person centred, trauma-informed case management services to clients including providing information, advice, advocacy, referrals, strategies and interventions.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with external agencies and referral partners.

  • Work with clients on an outreach basis who are homeless under a rapid re-housing program assisting clients access a range of accommodation and support services.

  • Work with clients whose tenancy may be at risk to support them in overcoming challenges and maintaining their tenancy.

  • Maintain a high level of documentation and case notes as required, including the coordination of referrals.

  • Assist with community development and awareness activities as required, such as representing the service in promoting education relating to Domestic Violence and Homelessness and the effects on women, children and the community.

About you

We are looking for a passionate and positive Outreach Caseworker with strong alignment to Jenny’s Place values and the belief that all women and children have the right to live free from violence. We are open to experience level for this position, you may be earlier in your career and looking for the next step, or perhaps bringing your extensive experience and expertise to contribute to this dedicated team.

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Community Services, or a related field (Diploma or higher).

  • A team player who takes pride in contributing to a collaborative, supportive and client focused culture.

  • Case management experience within a similar environment (for example SHS service or program), it would be advantageous to have experience supporting women and children affected by DFV and/or homelessness. A background in tenancy or property management supporting vulnerable people would also be of interest.

  • A sound understanding of trauma-informed, client-centred practice.

  • Excellent communication, coordination, and interpersonal skills.

You’ll also need a current driver’s licence, Working with Children Check, and be willing to undertake a National Criminal History Check. This role is designated for a female under section 31 of the Anti Discrimination Act.
