Peoplefusion are proud to be partnering with Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service to recruit an experienced legal professional to join their Legal & Governance team supporting the delivery of world class helicopter emergency medical services across Northern NSW.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service is a not-for-profit organisation providing world class aeromedical, search and rescue services to those in need 24/7. The Service has 50 years of proud history, and operates from three bases in NSW (Tamworth, Belmont, Lismore) in addition to a Head Office and Deep Level Maintenance (DLM) facility based in Broadmeadow, NSW. About the opportunity
Reporting to the General Counsel / Company Secretary, the Legal Counsel is a trusted advisor to the Board, Senior Leadership Team and broader organisation. This role provides high-quality, commercially astute legal advice across a broad range of matters, including commercial and contractual agreements, regulatory and legislative compliance, governance, and risk management.
This role is being offered as a six-month fixed term contract and is a hands-on, influential role that supports the organisation’s strategic goals while strengthening legal frameworks and protecting the Service’s operations.
Key areas of impact include:
Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts and legal documentation
Providing legal advice across compliance, regulatory and project matters
Supporting the Board, executive and business units on legal and governance requirements
Assisting with litigation matters and managing external legal providers
Developing legal policies, procedures and staff training programs
Monitoring legislative and regulatory changes and advising on impacts
Supporting governance documentation and organisational risk management
Maintaining compliance, contracts and risk registers
About you
You are a confident, commercially minded legal professional who thrives in a purpose-driven environment. You enjoy working closely with senior leaders and stakeholders, and bring a proactive, solutions-focused approach to your work.
You will bring:
Bachelor of Laws
Current Practising Certificate (or ability to obtain)
Minimum 8 years’ legal counsel experience in a corporate environment
Experience within an NGO or not-for-profit environment (highly regarded)
Strong influencing, negotiation and relationship management skills
A professional, values-aligned and collaborative working style
