About the organisation 

Warlga Ngurra Women and Children’s Refuge is an Aboriginal focused Specialist Homelessness Service that responds to women, with or without accompanying children, who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless due to domestic violence. Their services include emergency accommodation, court support, children’s activities, outreach support, advocacy, housing support, child support and referrals.

The team at Warlga Ngurra are passionate about their mission to deliver innovative solutions to address homelessness, violence, and poverty. They are focused on achieving immediate and lasting changes, within a culturally diverse and safe environment.

About the role

As the Intake Assessment & Administration Officer at Warlga Ngurra, you will be one of the first points of contact for women seeking support. Your role will be essential in ensuring incoming client requests are assessed efficiently and directed to the appropriate services within the organisation. This is a dynamic and people-focused role that combines frontline client engagement with administrative coordination to support the broader team and service outcomes.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting initial client assessments via phone, video conference, and face-to-face using the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) Client Information Management System.

  • Coordinating and responding to client enquiries via intake emails and voicemails in a timely and professional manner.

  • Preparing clear, written reports based on initial assessments and supporting documentation for internal allocation.

  • Maintaining accurate client records and supporting data entry requirements while ensuring confidentiality and adherence to Warlga Ngurra policies.

  • Providing day-to-day administrative support to the Manager, Case Workers, and the Board, as well as performing reception duties as needed.

  • Managing Warlga Ngurra’s social media platforms, including content creation and community engagement.

About you

The skills and experience we are seeking include: 

  • Certificate III or IV in Community Services (desirable)

  • Experience in administration and/or intake coordination, preferably in the community or not-for-profit sector

  • Excellent customer service skills and a friendly, professional demeanour

  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office Systems

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team

  • Understanding of confidentiality and ethical conduct in client services

This role requires a strong understanding of First Nations peoples, cultures and society, and the issues which impact them, with a commitment to culturally safe practice. This is a targeted role specifically aimed for Aboriginal candidates however Aboriginality is not a genuine occupational qualification criteria for this role.

You are required to hold a current driver’s license and Working with Children Clearance and a National Police Check as part of your employment.
