About the opportunity
We are seeking a Graduate Commercial Analyst to join the Port of Newcastle, one of Australia’s most strategic infrastructure assets. With a diversified trade base and a long-term growth strategy, the organisation offers this graduate position the opportunity to work on real commercial decisions that shape large-scale infrastructure investment and development.
This role is ideal for a high-performing graduate who is commercially curious, analytically strong and keen to build a career in commercial strategy and investment analysis.
The opportunity
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will support commercial planning and decision-making that underpins the port’s long-term success. In this role, you’ll gain exposure to complex financial modelling, pricing analysis and business case development, working closely with senior stakeholders across the business.
This is a hands-on graduate role offering meaningful responsibility, mentoring and a clear development pathway.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Commercial Manager as required
Support the development and implementation of commercial strategy and investment plans
Assist in building financial models and business cases to evaluate investment opportunities
Assist with pricing analysis, benchmarking and implementation of pricing policies
Analyse trade volumes, revenues and other data to inform strategic decisions
Support projects and initiatives across teams to deliver business objectives
Prepare reports, briefings and presentations for senior management
About you
We are looking for a motivated graduate who is keen to apply their studies in a real commercial environment.
You will bring:
Tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Economics, Finance or a related discipline (minimum bachelors level)
At least one year experience in a professional setting
An understanding of investment evaluation approaches (NPV, IRR, DCF)
Strong analytical and numerical capability
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills with commercial awareness.
An interest in commercial strategy, investment and infrastructure
Clear communication skills and a collaborative working style
A proactive mindset and willingness to learn
Appreciation of the maritime, port, transport, or resources industries is advantageous.
Previous work experience, internships or exposure to financial modelling/investment analysis (NPV, DCF) will be highly regarded.
