About the opportunity
Based on site in their Newcastle CBD-based office, this opportunity will see you play a vital role working as part of their Australia/Asia Pacific team. This varied role will allow you to expand your experience working across a global function while contributing to the success of Scenic Tours!
Key Responsibilities:
In this role you will oversee AU/NZ compliance by;
Lodging accounts, tax returns, and statutory reports (ASIC, ATO) in a timely manner.
Acting as the main point of contact for external tax advisors and consultants.
Preparing and lodging BAS and managing other tax-related tasks.
Maintaining a strong working knowledge of GST requirements for both revenue and expenses.
Overseeing month-end processes, including accruals, reconciliations, and commission override calculations.
Contributing to financial controls, audits, and process improvements across the company.
Undertaking ad-hoc tasks and projects as required.
About you
We are seeking an experienced Accountant with at least 4+ years of experience, ideally at the Accountant or Senior Accountant level.
Strong understanding of Australian Tax Law (NZ Tax Law experience desirable).
Experience in BAS preparation and lodgement.
Advanced Excel skills, including data sorting, reconciliation, and financial analysis.
Excellent problem-solving, organisational, and communication skills.
A detail-oriented, adaptable, and proactive team player.
Essential; understanding the key principles of:
GST (revenue and expenses, applicable and GST free)
Experience in preparation and lodgement of BAS
Experience and understanding of the Australian TaxLaw.
Experience and understanding of the New Zealand Tax Law-desirable
