Job Description

YWCA Hunter is a women-led organisation that achieves positive change by providing advocacy, programs and services to support, empower and connect women and families for a stronger community. YWCA Hunter Region Inc. is part of the YWCA World and an affiliate of YWCA Australia.

The Board of Directors for the YWCA Hunter Region invites applications for the position of Executive Director. The Executive Director provides leadership; advocacy and the day to day management of the organisation to enable the achievement of its mission.

The successful candidate will be an experienced leader who has managed people, programs and the administration of a public, private or not-for-profit organisation. You will be ideally able to demonstrate your:

  • Highly developed leadership, management and organisational skills

  • Ability to manage and budget finances and programs

  • Outstanding skills in written and verbal communication

  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills

  • High level negotiating and influencing skills

  • Understanding and commitment to the issues facing women and families both locally, nationally and globally

  • Proactive forward-thinking skills

Desirable criteria:

  • Experience in fund development including grant writing and administration.

  • Knowledge of the roles and process of government agencies involved in funding of community based not for profit organisations

  • Experience in service delivery and program development within the community sector (especially in children/youth and women's programs.)

  • Skills in marketing and promotion

Ideally you will have Tertiary qualifications in Business, Management, Humanities or another related field. This position is based in Newcastle and is a full-time position of 38 hours per week but could be worked over a 4- or 5-day week depending upon organisational requirements.
