About the Opportunity

This is a pivotal senior leadership role, that will manage both the strategic and operational corporate services functions, including IT, infrastructure and facilities, finance, people and culture, legal and risk, and corporate governance. 

Reporting to the Institute Director, you will help shape the future growth and direction of the Institute and its integral corporate services. This role will also act as a key facilitator of stakeholder engagement with key affiliates the University of Newcastle and Hunter New England Health.

You will work with a dedicated team to help formulate, articulate and deliver the strategy for the unit to allow HMRI to deliver world class research and continue to transform the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing strategic and operational guidance and direction to a team of senior leaders across the corporate services functions of HMRI including infrastructure and facilities, finance, people and culture, legal and risk, IT, and corporate governance.

  • Execution and delivery of key strategic and operational projects and initiatives.

  • Ability to identify, build and maintain key partnerships and relationships with a range of networks and organisations.

  • Providing vision, leadership, strategic planning and expertise to the corporate services teams.

  • Develop, implement and maintain appropriate systems and processes for the different corporate services functions that meet the current and future strategic and operational needs of HMRI.

Key Requirements

  • Strategic mindset and proven ability to link high level strategy with operational activity and outcomes

  • Strong financial acumen and management accounting literacy

  • Ability to link high level strategy to operational outcomes

  • Proven senior leadership experience with the ability to influence

  • Ability to apply commercial principles to not for profit organisation

  • Proven ability to build optimal relationships within an organisation and with a diverse range of stakeholders

  • Ability to influence positive organisational culture

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as business administration, healthcare, facilities, or finance may be beneficial

  • Other comparable qualifications will be considered

  • Experience working in research sector desirable, but not essential
