About the opportunity
  
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides financial leadership across the Awabakal group, ensuring strong fiscal management in the delivery of the organisation’s strategic and operational objectives. Reporting to the CEO and partnering closely with the Board, the CFO plays a critical role in strengthening governance, guiding decision-making and supporting the organisation’s long-term sustainability and growth.
  
This is a senior leadership position requiring a balance of strategic insight and operational oversight, within a complex, values-led and community-focused environment.
  
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting and long-term financial planning across Awabakal Limited, Enterprises and Pre-Schools

  • Partner with the CEO and provide high-level advice and recommendations to the Board

  • Strengthen financial governance, reporting frameworks, systems and internal controls

  • Oversee funding, grants, acquittals and optimisation of funding sources

  • Provide strategic financial advice relating to investment opportunities, risk and sustainability

  • Drive efficiency and continuous improvement across financial systems and processes

  • Lead, develop and mentor finance teams through change and organisational growth

About you
  
You are a senior finance leader with demonstrated experience leading finance functions in complex political, social and economic environments, ideally within community, NFP or similarly purpose-led organisations of comparable scale.
  
You bring strong technical capability, a collaborative leadership style and a values-driven approach, with a clear focus on doing what is right for community while ensuring financial sustainability.
  
You Will Bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Finance, Business or a related discipline

  • CPA or CA qualification (highly desirable)

  • Proven experience partnering with CEOs and Boards at a strategic level

  • Strong fiduciary capability and experience developing robust financial governance frameworks

  • Experience improving financial reporting, systems, controls and organisational efficiency

  • A passion for developing and leading teams through change

  • Knowledge of, and genuine appreciation for, Aboriginal culture and community
