Job Description

  • Purpose-led role leading a respected local multicultural-focused organisation

  • Influence strategy, culture and long-term sustainability

  • Work with a values aligned Board to shape Mosaic’s future

About the company

Over the past 40 years, Mosaic Multicultural Connections (Mosaic) has supported people from migrant and refugee backgrounds and their communities across Newcastle, the Hunter, Lake Macquarie, the Central Coast, and New England. Mosaic’s dedicated workforce of over 80 staff and hundreds of volunteers are passionate about supporting and inspiring culturally diverse people to overcome barriers and thrive. Mosaic supports people from over 70 countries and their multilingual workforce speaks, reads or writes over 40 languages.

About the opportunity

Reporting to the Board, the CEO is responsible for the overall strategic leadership and management of Mosaic. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to lead the organisation through its next phase – strengthening financial sustainability, improving operational efficiency, supporting staff development and positioning Mosaic for strategic growth.

This role requires a leader who can balance commercial acumen with strong cultural literacy and a genuine commitment to community impact. The CEO will play a key role in building relationships with government, funding bodies, partners and communities, while ensuring Mosaic continues to deliver high-quality, culturally responsive services.

Key focus areas include:

  • Provide strong financial stewardship, strengthening organisational health and Mosaic’s long-term strength and viability.

  • Improve operational efficiency and unlock growth opportunities, particularly within aged care and place-based service delivery, while exploring diversified income streams including government funding, partnerships, philanthropy and social enterprise.

  • Build a high-performing, engaged workforce by implementing consistent performance management, investing in leadership capability, supporting professional development and creating clear pathways to retain and grow talent.

  • Set clear strategic direction and lead the next phase of growth, including measured expansion into new regions by leveraging existing systems and infrastructure.

  • Embed culturally responsive, community-led practice, ensuring co-design with communities remains central and Mosaic continues to deliver inclusive, trusted and impactful services.

About you

You are a values-driven senior leader with a strong business mindset and a commitment to culturally responsive, community-led practice. You bring experience leading organisations through complexity and change, and you are skilled at balancing sound commercial decision-making with empathy, cultural humility and respect for lived experience.

Additional qualities and experience we are seeking include:

  • Cultural literacy and community-led practice: High level of cultural literacy and fluency, with demonstrated experience working respectfully and effectively with culturally diverse communities, embedding co-design and lived experience into service delivery.

  • Strategic and visionary leadership: Ability to set clear strategic direction, make sound decisions in complex environments, and lead disciplined, well-planned expansion aligned to organisational capacity.

  • Financial stewardship and organisational leadership: Proven senior leadership experience with responsibility for financial management, governance and organisational performance, including guiding organisations through periods of complexity and change.

  • Operational and growth capability: Demonstrated experience improving efficiency, implementing effective operating models, and enabling growth - ideally within not-for-profit, aged care or human services environments.

  • People leadership and culture-building: A strong track record in building engaged, high-performing teams through people-centred leadership, capability development, coaching and consistent performance management.

  • Funding diversification and commercial acumen: Experience exploring and securing diverse funding streams, including government funding, partnerships, philanthropy and social enterprise, balanced with strong ethical judgement.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in business, health or a related field, with postgraduate leadership qualifications highly regarded.
