About the company

Newcastle Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (NWDVCAS) supports women and children experiencing domestic and family violence across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie. The service provides information, advocacy, referrals, and court support to help clients navigate the legal system and access the assistance they need. NWDVCAS works closely with police, legal representatives, and community services to prioritise safety, empowerment, and informed choice, with a strong commitment to cultural respect and inclusion.

About the opportunity

NWDVCAS is seeking an experienced and capable Assistant Manager to join their leadership team based in Newcastle.

Reporting to the Manager, this position plays a key role in the overall administration, coordination and service delivery of NWDVCAS. You will provide operational leadership and guidance to the team, ensure the service runs effectively, and maintain a hands-on approach to client engagement.

Key priorities include:

  • Support the Manager with the day-to-day coordination, administration, and delivery of NWDVCAS services.

  • Help shape and implement effective systems, policies, and processes that strengthen service delivery and operational efficiency.

  • Lead the coordination of specific programs or outreach initiatives, ensuring smooth and effective service operation.

  • Manage projects and other key initiatives that contribute to continuous improvement across the organisation.

  • Analyse and interpret data to strengthen operational reporting, providing valuable insights that support management and contribute to board reports.

  • Actively participate in professional development, training, supervision, and team meetings to support ongoing learning and collaboration.

About you

You are an experienced leader, confident in managing people, operations and stakeholder relationships. You’ll bring strong interpersonal and organisational skills, a collaborative mindset and a deep understanding of domestic and family violence dynamics. A thorough knowledge of the criminal justice response to domestic and family violence is highly advantageous. This is a rare opportunity to step into a genuine leadership pathway, with a clear progression plan to move into the Manager role over time. You’ll be supported to build your leadership capability, contribute to strategic decision-making, and play a central role in shaping the future of the service.

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring exceptional communication skills, particularly in negotiation, advocacy, and conflict resolution, along with:

  • Demonstrated operational leadership with the ability to supervise, guide, and develop team members.

  • A leadership style that strengthens positive culture, promotes open communication and encourages people to do their best work.

  • Proven stakeholder engagement and networking capability.

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work or a related discipline.

  • Strong financial acumen, including budget management and reporting experience or a genuine interest in strengthening your skills in this area.

  • Experience in collaborative practice and interagency coordination.

The successful candidate will hold a valid driver’s licence and either possess or be willing to obtain a Working with Children Check and National Police Check.

This position is open to female applicants only. NWDVCAS considers being a woman a genuine occupational qualification under section 31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
