About the company

Since 1977, Jenny's Place has been providing crisis and transitional accommodation, early intervention and prevention programs, outreach support, and community education to women and children experiencing domestic and family violence (DFV) and homelessness in our local community. Their integrated case management programs help clients secure and maintain safe, affordable housing, and connect with appropriate wrap-around services to meet individual needs.

About the opportunity

Based at the Newcastle Domestic Violence Resource Centre (NDVRC), the Aboriginal Caseworker will provide culturally appropriate, trauma-informed, and person-centred case management and support to Aboriginal women and their children who are experiencing or at risk of DFV and homelessness.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing culturally safe, trauma-informed case management services including information, advocacy, referrals, strategies, and interventions.

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with external agencies, referral partners, and Aboriginal community networks.

  • Assisting clients to access appropriate housing, navigate support systems, and work towards stability and independence.

  • Supporting clients to overcome barriers to maintaining safe housing and accessing services.

  • Maintaining accurate case notes, documentation, and coordinating referrals as required.

  • Assisting with community awareness activities to promote education about DFV, its impacts on Aboriginal women and children, and available support services.

About you

We are seeking an Aboriginal woman who is passionate about empowering others and committed to creating positive change. You will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Community Services, or a related field (Diploma or higher).

  • Experience providing case management support to Aboriginal women experiencing DFV and/or homelessness.

  • A strong understanding of trauma-informed, client-centred practice and the dynamics of DFV in Aboriginal communities.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build respectful and professional relationships.

  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a supportive team environment.

This is an Aboriginal Identified Position in accordance with Section 14(D) of the Anti -Discrimination Act 1977. This role is designated for a female under section 31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act.
You are required to hold a current driver’s license, Working with Children Clearance and a National Police Check as part of your employment.
