Awabakal operates on the lands of the Awabakal, Worimi, Mindaribba, Biraban, Bahtabah and Wonnarua people and comprises of Awabakal Limited, Awabakal Enterprises and Awabakal Pre Schools, employing over 150 dedicated team members.
  
The organisations’ primary focus is to advance the wellbeing of their community, and this is provided through a range of services including, medical and healthcare, wellbeing and mental health programs, support for their elders and vulnerable community members, family services and housing. 
  
About the position
The newly created position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for providing financial leadership, setting and implementing of a financial strategy across the organisation which ensures effective fiscal management in the delivery of the organisation’s strategic and operational objectives. The position will partner closely with Awabakal’s CEO and provide guidance and recommendation to the Awabakal Board to ensure Awabakal’s ongoing sustainability and growth.
  
About you
As the CFO of Awabakal, you will demonstrate significant experience in successfully leading finance functions in a complex political, social and economic environment of a similar size community/NFP organisation. You will have experience in improving financial reporting, governance and management, along with a knack for identifying ways to gain efficiency.
  
Developing and leading teams on a change journey is something you are passionate about, and others believe to be one of your key strengths.   
  
In addition, we are seeking:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Finance, Business or relevant discipline.

  • Knowledge and genuine appreciation of Aboriginal culture as it relates to the role.

  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with the CEO and Board of Directors to establish and execute the strategic direction which ensures organisational growth, effectiveness and sustainability.

  • Experience in providing strategic level finance information in the areas of financial systems and control, funding requirements and sources and investment opportunities.

  • Strong fiduciary and financial capabilities including the development and management of robust governance frameworks as they relate to financial management.

  • An authentic approach to doing what’s right in the interests of the broader community and the future of the organisation in which you are an integral member of the Leadership Team.

  • CPA or CA (highly desirable)
