Job Description

About the position  

The Policy Officer will be an instrumental position in the organisation as they work towards policy harmonization and development across the 2500+ team that encompasses 3 major business in education, community development, disability, children’s services and aging.   
  
Partnering with leaders across the organisation, you will provide analysis and advice on a range of policy related matters and will initiate and champion policy development that drives reform which ultimately contributes to better outcomes and enables the organisation’s continued success.
  
A broader scope of the position includes:

  • Developing new, well rounded and fit for purpose policy responses, with a whole of business approach.

  • Exercising initiative and judgment whilst managing a workload that balances long-term projects and short-term responses to urgent issues.

  • Contributing to the design, implementation and coordination of policy development and projects that deliver effective outcomes and departmental objectives.

  • Undertaking research and analysis identifying trends and emerging issues to support the development of policy and key projects and the improvement process.

  • Coordinating aspects of policy development, projects and implementation, including developing and monitoring project plans and briefs, and coordinating inputs and resources to ensure project milestones are met.

  • Communicating with key stakeholders and collaborating with colleagues to coordinate and provide relevant services to working groups, committees and subcommittees to ensure seamless exchange of information and support of policy development and implementation.

  
About you

To be considered for this newly created position of Policy Officer, you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Sciences, Public Policy or Economics.

  • Experience in policy development, implementation, program evaluation and review.

  • Conceptual, analytical and critical thinking skills, and an ability to interpret complex information rapidly and accurately.

  • Experience within a medium to large-scale organisational policy environment.

  • Confidence in designing and delivering well researched, balanced and expert policy advice.

  • An ability to forward-plan, manage multiple priorities, monitor and report progress, manage stakeholder expectations, adjust plans to ensure effectiveness.
