Job Description

The General Manager – Business Development is a position that will commence in a hands-on capacity as you develop sales, strategies and business plans to build on existing relationships and develop new key accounts.  In the future, as business development results increase, the position will lead a business development team.   
Our client is privately owned, well established in NSW and Queensland, and is part of a secure, global group.  With a home base of Tomago, the role extends beyond business development as it encompasses commercial and contract management support to the business. 
The inaugural General Manager - Business Development will have an exciting future as they:     

  • Provide strategic and operational vision for new market opportunities and increased business outcomes with existing products and services.

  • Effectively lead and execute the business development function, to identify opportunities for more effective sales strategies and growth.

  • Manage and assist with the completion of major RFP’s/tenders/proposals to customers or external parties and provide viable commercial advice.

  • Manage key actions coming out of customer contracts by maintaining a database of review meetings dates, rates review milestones, termination dates, option periods.

  • Build and maintain relationships with prospect and existing major customers, including conducting regular service review meetings.

  • Create marketing strategies that enhance business performance and measure results of marketing initiatives.

  • Keep up to date with industry knowledge.

Additional experience and attributes we are seeking include: 

  • Strong strategic account planning, business development and commercial experience

  • Leadership qualities underpinned by a genuine interest in people.

  • Sound knowledge of HV electrical solutions either through an electrical trade/engineering, or through experience in complimentary products and services with HV electrical components.

  • An ability to work proactively rather than reactively.

  • A capability to think and act tactically in the short term without losing sight of or compromising longer-term strategic goals.

  • Success in achieving year on year growth in revenue and profitability within the resources, mining services, heavy industrial or infrastructure sectors.

  • Strong project management skills relating to business improvement initiatives.

  • A willingness to travel through NSW and Queensland mining regions.

Based on our preferred criteria, the salary package available is likely to be in the vicinity of $140,000 - $160,000 + super + motor vehicle allowance and a future incentive program.
