About the opportunity
  
Our client is a large, complex and highly regarded organisation based in the Newcastle / Hunter region. With significant systems, process and operational change underway, this role offers the opportunity to lead a transactional finance team while supporting BAU operations through a period of transformation!
  
Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, in this position, you will lead a team of 15 across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll, ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of core transactional services. You will also take ownership of group treasury activities including cash flow, banking facilities, FX exposure, leasing and bank guarantees.
  
This role will suit an experienced finance leader who enjoys being close to the detail, supporting people through change, improving processes and helping teams feel heard, guided and equipped to succeed. You will be required to understand how the team operates, listen to pain points, support leaders, guide process adoption and step in where needed to provide support.
  
Working closely with the broader finance leadership group, you will drive reporting improvements, strengthen financial controls and deliver insights that support operational decision-making.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Leading, mentoring and developing AP, AR and Payroll teams to deliver accurate, timely and service-focused outcomes.

  • Managing group treasury functions including cashflow, banking facilities, FX exposure and bank guarantees.

  • Enhancing financial reporting, analysis and internal stakeholder capability.

  • Driving process and system improvements across transactional finance.

  • Supporting monthly board reporting inputs and cashflow forecasting.

  • Partnering with internal stakeholders to improve service levels, communication and confidence in finance processes.

  • Overseeing credit cards, corporate travel, leasing and other internal financial administration processes.

About you
  
You will be an experienced finance professional who has led transactional finance, shared services, payroll, AP/AR or broader finance operations teams. While technical capability is important, your leadership style will be equally critical.
  
The right person will bring flexibility, change management experience, resilience and a calm, solutions-focused approach!
  
You will also bring:

  • Degree-qualified with CA/CPA accreditation

  • Demonstrated experience leading transactional finance teams

  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills

  • Advanced Excel and ERP experience (MS F&O Dynamics / Dayforce (Ceridian) preferred)

  • Proven ability to improve systems, processes and financial practices

  • Experience in engineering, manufacturing or heavy industry environments is advantageous
