About the opportunity
  
We are seeking a proactive, highly capable and detail-oriented Communications Officer to join this small but high-impact team. This is a hands-on role where you will take ownership of communications, member engagement and supporting administration, working closely with the CEO, Chair and Board. You will play a critical role in how the Committee communicates with its members, stakeholders and the broader public.
  
Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be responsible for producing high-quality, consistent and engaging communications across multiple platforms. You will also contribute to member engagement, stakeholder relationships and the smooth coordination of events and Board-related activities.
  
This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of business, government and community leadership. The Committee regularly engages with senior leaders across corporations, institutions and government, requiring a high level of professionalism, sound judgement and strong communication capability.
  
Key responsibilities

  • Produce high-quality content across multiple platforms, including newsletters, website, social media, presentations, media and event materials

  • Manage mailing lists and deliver targeted communications that represent the Committee’s work and amplify member representation, including monthly newsletters and stakeholder updates

  • Maintain and update website content and develop supporting visual materials using digital tools

  • Ensure all communications are consistent, timely, evidence-based and aligned with the organisation’s strategy and brand

  • Identify and implement opportunities to enhance communication and engagement

  • Support member renewals, onboarding and ongoing engagement to drive satisfaction and retention

  • Contribute insights and analysis to improve member engagement and communications effectiveness

  • Support stakeholder engagement across government, industry, community and institutional partners

  • Troubleshoot and resolve platform issues

  • Assist in the planning and coordination of events, including event communications, invitations and post-event engagement

Please note: A minimum of two days per week on Mondays and Tuesdays in the Newcastle CBD office is required.

You are proactive, detail-oriented and confident managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-profile environment. You bring strong communication expertise, with the ability to engage effectively across a broad range of stakeholders. You contribute initiative and creativity, identifying opportunities to enhance communication and engagement while ensuring all messaging aligns with the organisation’s strategic narrative and brand.
  
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Experience in communications and marketing, within or working alongside government, large corporations, institutions (like universities), advocacy, or membership-based organisations, highly regarded.

  • Proven ability in external stakeholder engagement, fostering professional relationships with diverse groups.

  • Hands-on website (CMS) experience, with the capability to manage updates, troubleshoot, and proactively improve digital presence.

  • Exceptional written communication skills, enabling the efficient production of clear, compelling, and sensitive content across various platforms.

  • Experience in developing and executing communication plans and content across multiple platforms, including Mailchimp, LinkedIn, Canva, Adobe & Microsoft Office Suite.

  • A strong aptitude for quickly learning and adopting new communication tools and services, demonstrating initiative in improving our existing processes.

  • Excellent organisational skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities, forward-plan tasks, and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • A keen eye for detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism and polish in all communication outputs.

  • Desirable experience in event planning and coordination, particularly for forums and smaller, responsive gatherings, including managing invitations and on-the-day logistics.

  • A proactive and adaptable individual who can problem-solve independently, take ownership of their domain, and contribute innovative ideas for continuous improvement.
